It's October, and I'm in love. With books. So, basically the same as every other month. Take a look at what titles are making my heart beat faster!
Truth or Beard by Penny Reid
Seeing as how I've been spending the last few weeks immersed in Penny Reid's Winston Brothers series, I don't think it's a huge surprise that one of my recommendations comes from the small town of Green Valley, Tennessee. Truth or Beard has one of my favorite tropes: a hero's long term secret pining. Does it make me evil that I love it when a man has suffered from years of need? Maybe. But I think I redeem myself with how hard I cheer for his happy ending! Duane is a stoic ginger, and Jessica is the travel hungry woman after my heart. Childhood enemies to lovers y'all! Plus: sexy Gandalf. Intrigued? Read the book!
Notes from a Young Black Chef by Kwame Onwuachi
I was hungry the WHOLE TIME I listen to this book. The descriptions of meals were drool worthy, and the progression of Kwame's life was fascinating. This is a man who took some time figuring out what he wanted from life, made interesting, dangerous choices along the way, but once he made a decision there was no stopping him. His entrepreneurial spirit is inspiring, and I hope one day I can sample his unique talent.
Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost
This was a re-read and was even better the second time around. A vengeful woman who becomes a badass vampire hunter? Yes, please. Sexy, snarky vampire with decently working moral compass? Give me front row seats! Cat is half human, half vampire, all awesome. Bones is what I imagine you'd get if Spike and Angel from Buffy the Vampire Slayer were smashed together into one delicious man. The first book technically isn't a romance, which is why I suggest immediately starting book two: One Foot in the Grave. Halloween is the perfect time for blood suckers!
That's it for now! Happy Halloween reading
